the Apostle’s Creed

Although its true origins are disputed, the words of this creed have been used to affirm and confess Christian faith for centuries. Like many denominations, Cumberland Presbyterians recite The Apostle’s Creed during worship services because we believe that confessing our faith in God is at the root of our worship of Him.

There are some friendly disagreements among Christians – and even within the same denomination – about some of the words within The Apostle’s Creed, but here is the version we recite at Shiloh:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.

AMEN.
